Oil Pressure Fluctuations

How bad is that at idle my oil pressure will fluctuate once in a while from 15 to 20 psi then go back down to 15? Is there anything I can do. Engine doesn't sound any different. No noises.

Are you going from the gauge in the car? If so I would check it with a test gauge just to be sure. Since the pressure isn't really low I wouldn't suspect the bearings or anythin like that. Just maybe a funky check valve or somethin of the like. It's not a good thing but since pressure only drops to 15 nothing really bad should happen.

should i try running some kind of engine cleaner through or try putting some marvel oil treatment in or something? Or maybe should I clean the sending unit?

Might just be the sensor.

I changed my sensor a while back and got almost a 10 psi increase. Was the old sensor giving me the correct pressure or is the new one? I don't know, but I am more content with the higher reading.

Check the sensor, but 15 psi isn't bad...now 10 or 8 or 5 psi you've got some serious issues.

lol, when my car idles the oil pressure is never above 10 psi. If I get on it then it goes up to around 40. Still need to fix that darn leak

How bad a leak? Lots of cars have MINOR oil leaks and the pressure will be ok...you could have a bearing(s) going down on you.

I just checked it again when the car is warm. I reved it up and it will drop to about 30 psi then fluctuate about +- 5 psi (which is about 1/8" on the gauge) then after about 10 seconds drop to about 22 psi (right above the first mark) and then stay steady. Does that sound about right guys?

My leak is pretty good. When I change my oil, if I don't add any to it, I usually lose about a quart or more of oil. Outside the car you can smell the burn oil pretty bad.

man my guage did the exact same thing. is that okay guys? cause im afraid i might have to change out my oil pressure sensor and i would rather not! i dont think it is anything wrong because it always has constant oil pressure when im driving. i just noticed it last night. i would be at a stop light and idling when the car is warmed up and it would do the same thing 94greenz28's car did which is about 30psi and fluctuate 5 psi or so and then stay steady at around 25 or so psi. i think its okay because when its idiling after a whiel it stays steady i just hope my sensor is fine. thanks! also 94 what is a moroso windage tray and balffle and what do you do with it and also hwo much does it cost where can i get it from?

oil pressure fluctuations

I have a 95z automatic with LT1. I bought the car about 2 years ago and the oil pressure gauge has always fluctuated between 20 and 40. Recently, I have noticed sitting at the stop light the pressure has been dropping under 20 (engine warm). I am now curious about what the actual pressure should be at idle. Pressure gauge goes back up to 40 when under power but drops considerably (not under 10) when not under power. Can anyone help me figure out if I need to be worried about this or not?
