Oil pressure drop.

My oil pressure builds up untill about 6k rpms and then drops off from around 60psi to 45psi then fluctuates. I tried 10w40 and 10w30 both of which do the same. This is in my fresh 357 with a stock pump and a TPIS oil pan with trap doors, windage tray, and crank scraper. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Re: Oil pressure drop.

Very likely a restriction in the filter setup. i fought the same thing with the new motor. Try a high flow filter like the Wix Racing 1 Qt. (1060R)

Re: Oil pressure drop.

I am building the exact same motor as Nick, so I am sharing some of the concerns.

He (we) have a melling standard volume pump with the stock spring. I have not seen the car drop to 45psi as Nick states, but it def does not build past 60 at high rpms. I think that the stiffer spring would def help us out.

Is it worth pulling the pan again to swap them? Will we do any damage with the way things are now?

Re: Oil pressure drop.

Ya i tried all sorts of brand new filters with mine too and some of them wont keep up with it.

Whats a 12 dollar filter and 1 qt of oil cost to change vs.....time pulling the pan and changing out the spring. KISS

Re: Oil pressure drop.

Ive noticed different filters and different oils doing the same thing on my car. It seemed like the THINNER oils held better pressure. Currently I use M1 filter with Mobil 5000 5w30.
