oil pressure

oil pressure

i have a rebuild engine and when i start it the oil pressure gauge doesnt move. Any thoughts?

Did you prime the motor before you ran it?

Is the gauge on 0 or pegged to the max?

no and its at 0 doesnt move at all from when its on or off

If the motor wasn't primed, remove the injector fuses and turn the motor over (assuming you have oil in the pan) until you get oil pressure. It also might help to put a mechanical gauge on the car to determine whether or not the oil pressure sending unit is functioning.

If the motor was never primed that's just poor workmanship on the shop who did the work. At this point I'd consider taking off the intake manifold and manually priming the oil pump.

If the gauge wasn't hooked up the needle would be pegged, that's why I asked.
