Oil pressure?
Oil pressure?
I did a search and it appears oil pressure has been covered 1,000,000 times. Anyway I only found a small sample of what my car does. With no real answer.
94 A4 Z28 121,000 miles.
At WOT the oil pressure will spike to about 45-50 PSI, but then will drop off to like 30 to 25 PSI, Car runs awesome, has no funny sounds. It has good pressure the rest of the time. 20 to 15 at idle warm. Cruising about 30 to 25 psi. Cold about 50 psi. Just wondering if this a common thing or should I be dropping the pan?
Thanks

Re: Oil pressure?
Does it drop pressure mostly in the lower gears? My car has suffered the exact same thing since I rebuilt it(41,000 miles ago), and it is most likely due to the stock pan/no windage tray/HV oil pump debacle. Any one of those three things or a combination of the three seem to cause this problelm for many people. So far I haven't done anything to correct it, besides run the oil 1/2 a quart low, which seems to help. Do a search and read up on the many threads about this and see what others have done to fix it. Good luck!
Re: Oil pressure?
My car used to do it when it was pretty much stock. I started using 0w40 Mobil 1 and it made the symptoms almost go away.
Many people on here have this oil pressure dropping issue, and I've never really heard of anyone losing a motor over it. I would play around with some different oils and weights to see what works best for you, and forgetaboutit.
