Oil Pressure

What do your gauges read for oil pressure? Once my car warms up my gauge are almost in the red. Thanks for the help.

how much oil do you have in there. Maybe you need a new sending unit.

You might want to try the search function. This matter is discussed frequently.

High mileage LT1's run low oil pressure. I have a 155,000 mile Lt1 that, when using 5w-30 Mobil-1 will idle hot, in drive, at about 10psi, which is right at the red. The manual specifies only 6psi at idle.

I now use Mobil-1 15w-50 or Castrol GTX 20w-50 and the oil pressure is back up to about 20 at idle and 40 cruising. Note this doesn't fix the problem, but it ensures that all of the oil doesn't squirt past the worn bearings.

Do a search, you'll get a lot of info.

Could be bad sending unit or gauge, best what you can do, is to hook up mechanical gauge and check the real pressure. If it's less than 10 psi per 1000 rpm, then it is probably rebuild time. May try first just to swap in new oil pump.

id try a new oil pump WAY before a rebuild

Yes, you are correct.

I had the same problem and tried new oil pump and unfortunately that didn't help much, athough old pump looked worned - that's why I think it's better to be prepared for rebuild.

Cool

HV oil pump, 7,000 miles. Cld, PSI is almost 70, warm at 2,000 rpm is 50. idle is about 25-30 psi

I would use a mechanical guage and check it before anything...
