oil pan / pump for stroker ?
oil pan / pump for stroker ?
building a 396 stroker, threw a rod in previous set up so my oil pan is unusable. what kind of oil pan should i get, as well as what kind of oil pump?
i'm sure stock stuff will work, but if i could get a better performance pump/pan for a decent price i will. especially at the cost of dealer factory parts. thanks for the help asap. ordering parts this weekend.

Re: oil pan / pump for stroker ?
I've had good results with the stock pump, blueprinted, 80psi spring and tack-welded pickup. Using it with a stock pan in a 383.... not sure if the stock pan would even work with a 396. I've seen a similar setup in a blown 383 pushing 1,125 flywheelHP and running 9.04@155mph.
Hopefully you are paying "dealer" prices for your GM parts, when the sources frequently listed here will sell them to you for about 1/2 of list.

Re: oil pan / pump for stroker ?
My stock pan took a few taps of a hammer to clear the 3.75" stroke Callies crank. It would depend on the specific 3.875" crank you used in your 396.
Re: oil pan / pump for stroker ?
Not to let a cat out of a bag, but right now my engine builder has Moroso making a custom LT1 oil pan with baffle and windage tray built into it, guessing my engine is the test dummy. I'll let everyone know if they put it into production.
Re: oil pan / pump for stroker ?
Totaly not knocking Injuneer and the other members on the board who hammer out their stock pan, but if your putting all this $$ into the motor and making sure its PERFECT, I wouldnt hammer the stock pan out. I am going with a new style Canton oil pan (the one that dont leak like the older style ones), they have a built in windage try, also picked up the associated oil picking which is 3/4", usally you buy the pan and pickup at the same time, usally the pan company offers them. I am going with a Melling HV oil pump....my engine builder told me something i didn't know....Moroso, Canton, and all those other companies that sell these High Volume and/or High Pressure oil pumps are just resellers. They told me ALL aftermarket pumps are ultimatly made by Melling. Found that interesting...
