Oil pan plug stripped
Oil pan plug stripped
Mechanic told me I have to replace the oil pan...
pan plug was stripped and for now it has a temporary plug in it.
Anyone know how much labor is involved?
Any link to help out? I am thinking of doing it myself, as I was told it would take anywhere from 4-6 hours.
thanks

Just shuw a plug in there, who cares, or just take the K-memeber out, hold engine with jackstand on tranny & hub, take K-memeber out just a bit, remove pan bolts/pan, should take around 4 hours to do the work, replace gasket while you're at it.
They sell repair kits [its like an oversize plug and a tap..]
Use that, and then probe in the hole with a magnet etc, [to be sure it's clean of chips!]
Then flush the pan out good [by pouring light oil or a little kero thru it...]
I wouldn't change the pan..

I routinely use magnetic drain plugs.. but not sure you'll be able to get one in oversize..

How bad is it striped? If it has any part left to grab on it, you get it out with vice-grips to get it off and get a new plug. It shouldnt be torqued up to much, although it may be . Other wise you can just retap the hole. You said the plug. If you striped the pan itslef you can just retap it bigger and get a bigger plug like stated above
