So i went to get a new oil pan gasket today. I got a Fel Pro Perma Seal and it came with some extras. Pictured below are some o rings and some paper gaskets that came with it. Just wondering what they are for? Also i hear i should not use RTV on this gasket. Is this true? Thanks

 

I'm wondering the same thing my gasket set is OS34500R , I also heard to install it dry or use "the right stuff"

 

The extra gaskets and large o-rings are for the oil filter adapter/oil cooler.

I installed my Felpro oil pan gasket dry 6 years ago, and no leaks since.

 

Another vote for installing it dry. As long as everything is clean and burr-free, there's no reason you should use RTV.

 

Use RTV at the front and back...where the gasket goes over the timing cover and rear main..... and dry everywhere else.

I've done it this way many times and never has a leak.

BW Hunter, ive heard about putting it there on the corners of the rear main and the timing cover because they apparently leak there often. Thanks for the tip.

So i took all the RTV i had on the pan off... Dont ask long story. Anyways i lost a bit of the paint on the seal area aswel. Is this going to cause any issues? I was told no and that i could spray some paint on any paintless surface of the pan once its mounted to the motor to prevent rust. But the unpainted area around the gasket will be fine. Do you guys agree?

 

I was told to do so on my LT1 by a few experienced techs as well.
