Has anyone attempted to change the oil pan gasket with the engine still in the car? If so please help me out. I am lookin into doing it this week end.

Would it be possible to jack the motor up by the oil pan (with a big enough piece of wood so i don't crush the oil pan obviously) and wedge a piece of wood or metal to support the engine on. This peice of wood would be placed in between the engine mount on the engine, and the engine mount on the chassis. I don't see how it owuld be a problem as long as the exhaust clears. Am i over looking something?

If that way is not doable, very likely, is there any other way to do it without an engine hoist.

 

No need to jack the motor. The new gasket is stretchable, just drop the pan, remove old gasket and any silicone in the cornors. Put the gasket around the outside of the pan, pull it up and stretch it over the sides(pan rails) and bolt it up. I make it sound easy I know but it is easy compared to lifting the engine.

 

You might try a search. There have been lots of posts about the pan gasket.

 

Did you do personally do this? Or know some one that has? it makes sense as long as there is not a ton of silicone in there. for some reason, the guy who had my car before me likes to go silicone happy on everything he does

 

I had to lift the engine up and loosen the subframe, 6 bolts. The pan was loose and hit the crossmember. I can't see any way to fish the gasket around the windage tray and oil pump. Be prepared for it to kick your *** for a while, but it's doable. I wouldn't start without an engine hoist and floor jack. Also the oil level sensor has to come out. Have fun.
