Oil in my throttle body?
Oil in my throttle body?
Doing some tune up work on the ta today and when I pulled the intake elbow I notice I have oil in my tb a film on the blades and a small pool at the base in between the blades what the hell?
Re: Oil in my throttle body?
You're pulling oil mist out of the passenger side valve cover, and up the rubber hose that connects to the side of the throttle body. Check the hose for oil. Pull the cover plate off the TB... it will probably have oil in it.
Could be a plugged PCV valve, could be excessive blowby overloading the PCV system, or it might be too much time spent at WOT.

Re: Oil in my throttle body?
I had the same thing. I was looking in my thottle body and i noticed all that gunk and then i took off the black cover on top of the throttle body and it was filled up to the top with oily gunk. I had a blown head gasket at the time so i'm not really sure what caused it.
Re: Oil in my throttle body?
Its usuallly higher mileage cars that are affected. Mine is doing the same thing.
I put an inline filter breather in the valve cover, Do a search and you should come up with the part number. Its actually for another application but it fits perfectly and helps keep oil out of the TB.

Re: Oil in my throttle body?
i dont know what considered high mileage but my car was doing it at 70k. i was told that it was because i spin to 6800 rpms. i put the inline breather and replaced the pcv valve just for piece of mind, spend like 6 bucks and it fixed the problem
Re: Oil in my throttle body?
Blowby is caused by worn rings...... not easy to fx.
At WOT, there is not much in the way of intake manifold vacuum. The intake will go under an increasingly negative pressure as air flow increases. If you have a dirty air filter, the pressure loss increases yet again, and you have a fairly decent negative pressure in the intake track. The PCV vacuum port on the intake manifold and the vent pipe port on the throttle body will both be trying to pull air in from the crankcase, increasing the chances of oil traveling backwards in the air supply line from the TB tothe valve cover..... that was the basis for my "it might be too much time spent at WOT".
Adding the inline filter in the line from the valve cover makes sense. I think Deutch makes one that looks like a factory piece.
