oil level sensor install

My 96 z has the dual stock cats with the driver side one right in the way of the oil level sensor. I could barely remove my leaking sensor, only by wigglin it past the cat and the end float piece cracked on removal. I think all of the plastic pieces fell out (I trial fitted the broken parts back together). My new sensor which was the same style as the old one I managed to force back into the hole without breaking, I guess my question is did anybody else have this kind of luck replacing their sensor? Will my oil filter catch any small pieces of the broken sensor if they ended up in the oil pan or should I drop the pan to make sure?

Re: oil level sensor install

Just noticed this post, while I was searching for something else. I have a 96 as well, and I have miles of clearance to remove that sensor before it hits the exhaust, so I'am a bit confused, and this was before the y-pipe install? And yes the oil filter will catch anything like that, and theres also a screen on the oil pump as well in the pan.

But anyways, my question is this: My sensor leaks like hell, and when I first got the car I tried to take it out to no avail. Does it just unscrew and then pull it straight out? Mine would unscrew and be loose in there but not come all the way out? Can anyone explain....

I don't know what there is to explain. You unscrew it and slide it straight out. It's long.

Exactly, what if I told you that I can unscrew mine, and pull it out(where the threads are about an inch from the pan) and then it just stops, and i wiggle it around up and down, but it feels like something catching it. I think someone had the pan off b4 to drill a hole it for the supercharger, which isnt on it anymore....wtf could be doing this?
