Oil leaking from valve covers?

A while ago I did headers and the Taylor OVC wires. I've noticed that my # 7 and 8 plugs and wires tend to have oil on them, as does the filter and some on the transmission. This is not leaking from the intake manifold as that has been replaced. Did you guys use any type of gasket or even the permatex liquid hi-temp gasket on the valve cover mounts? I didn't, didn't think I was supposed to. The mounts are on the valve covers as much as I can get them on, I tightened them pretty damn well, and I didn't want to snap anything loose but still, it should be plenty tight. Thanks in advance!

I would definitely go off of the torque specified in a manual, or at least be close to it if you don't use a torque wrench on them. By design, centerbolt valve covers can leak if they're torqued down too much.

Torque is 8.3 lbs-ft or 100 lbs-in.

It's definitely as tight or tighter than that. Anyone else running these wires with mobil 1 synthetic?

Yes my plugs are covered in oil! The valve cover gaskets should only have 35-40k on them, or about 2 years of mileage. I don't know what's up with that. As for valve cover gasket? It was replaced with GM OEM. Exhaust gaskets I decided to go with the LT1 Aluminum GM OEM Gaskets as that's what came back as most recommended off the board here.

A couple of things.....I tighten mine all the way down and never have any leaks. Take the cover off and make sure the seal is in correctly and not pinched up. Also make sure its the valve cover leaking and not the intake manifold.

Well I've noticed some buildup on the covers themself and the wires, and it started after I installed the valve cover wires. I'll definitely take a better look at it. If I remove the valve cover, will I screw up the gasket?
