oil leak question...

what are all the things that can possibly leak at the rear of the motor? ive got a pretty good leak (throws oil on rear bumper at highway speeds ) and i cant find any oil comin from anywhere up front and i can see little drips coming off the bellhousing. just had the rear main seal replaced while the trans was being rebuilt since the trans was off anyway so im pretty sure its not that... but what all can leak at the back like that (may also be at the very bottom of the front but looks more like its at teh rear of the motor to me) all responses appreciated.. i need to know what all to check cause i dont feel like adding a qaurt every cpl weeks and washing the rear every day lol

So oil ends up at the very back of the car? You've ruled out the differential and transmission I assume? Leaking from the back of the motor you have the intake, valve covers, oil pan, and oil filter, just to start. To be honest I can't see oil making it from any of those all the way to the back of the car.

That's a heck of a leak to make it onto the back bumper. I would assume the undercarriage would have traces from the engine all the way back there. Oil on the bumper sounds more like you are burning oil more than leaking it.

thats what i thought too until i looked underneath, oil is all down the under-side, i can see where its been hitting teh exhuast and burning off on it and the trans pan and bellhousing had quite a few drips on them (yes it was motor oil). thats why i made a post about it, otherwise i woulda just checked it out when i got a chance to so i need to check oil pan intake and valve covers? already checked oil plug and filter.

Tiger, the intake manifold, the rear part espes., has bad rep for leaking. Be carfull replacing the gaskets, the space between intake ports are very narrow. Try gluing the new intake gasket in place and let it sit for a few minutes before placing the intake manifold down.Use blue silicone on the ends. Use a torque wrench and follow the reccomended tightening sequence. It's not a hard job but it takes a lot of time. Clean the mating surfaces with paint thinner to be sure that they are clean before installing the new gaskets. The oil that leaks can be blown to the rear of the car, definitely! 93ZTed.

Re: oil leak question...

Here's something to look into on your oil leak issue. Mine was leaking a while back, so I changed the intake gasket . A little while back it started again. I couldn't believe that it only lasted about one year. So I got my digital camera out and started snapping off pix on the back side of the motor and found my problem. It was the oil pressure sending unit leaking. Squirting oil out straight down to the bell housing then all down the bottom of the car. Just something to look into before pulling the intake.

You could try putting in some fluorescent dye in the oil to help locate the leak.

I'll second the oil pressure sending unit. Especially since you just had the trans removed, this is exactly what happened to me after removing the transmission. I bumped the sending unit, broke it and it started to leak. It took me the longest time to figure out what it was, too...

I have a leak, just finished up my rebuild. I found oil on the TOP of my intake manifold and on the wiring harness where injectors 6 & 8 are. It even puddles on the recess below next to the injectors on the intake manifold. Its also burning on the exhaust manifold and y pipe on the far back passenger side. Lots of smoke, even getting inside the car. I dont see where its coming from.
Could it be my sending unit? Isnt that on the drivers side on the back though? Where else could it be from...? Valve cover gasket? Any easy was to track it down? It only leaks when the car is on and of course I cant see where is coming from since it gets so damn hot to inspect back there.
