Oil leak -- Front cover

Brought car in to dealership for oil leak.

They said it was leaking from front cover and oil pan. They are fixing both. Just curious, what do they mean by front cover? The timing chain cover is all I can think of.

Car was in for intake oil leak about 8 mo ago.

Before anybody says anything bad about bringing the car to the dealer - I bought a warranty with the car and am going to get my monies worth.

The front cover that they are talking about is the timing cover. The timing cover on our cars actually meets the oil pan in the front at the bottom of the timing cover. Whenever you replace the timing cover seal, you are *supposed* to replace the oil pan seal as well. Many people don't--they just slap some sealant on the seal where the timing cover meets the oil pan seal and put the timing cover back on. When I did the job, I put a new oil pan seal and timing cover seal on. So, you are correct, it's the timing cover they are talking about.

And hey, if you have a warranty on your car and they're going to cover the repairs, use it. That way you don't have to pay for anything, and if by some chance something does go wrong with the installation they have to fix it. If you screw it up, you're outta luck.
