Oil Leak Blues

hey guys. i'm new to this site and new to the LT-1. I have a 95 Formula with the M-6. i have a pretty severe oil leak from the rear of the motor. i assume it is the rear seal or oil pan gasket or both. i have been told i will have to pull the motor out to fix this. can this be done in the car or is it better out of the car? i plan to replace the crank seal and timing chain gasket(as well a timing chain set) and put a new water pump and tune up. also adding headers. any help would be appreciated.

Re: Oil Leak Blues

If you're going to do all that i'd say just pull it. It would save some time by haing it out and working on it then trying to work around everything while it's still in there.

Re: Oil Leak Blues

Verify the source of the leak first. It's common for the back of the intake manifold to leak; this will run down the back of the motor and appear to be a rear main seal leak.

Re: Oil Leak Blues

My 94 had the infamous oil leak from the intake, 2 good friends and 3 hours later, no leak.

Re: Oil Leak Blues

I had intake oil leak myself. Followed shoeboxes recommendations to and no more leak. Also had oil pan leak to but change the oil pan gasket and all good now.
