next mod or not?

For a street car would a 6AL,hotter coil and some good wires or 1.6 rockers or 373 gears be worth it or for the street be just wasting money?
This is on the car in my sig.

Re: next mod or not?

I would go a different route..sure the 373's will help but 323 ratio is just fine....as for the 1.6's id wait for a cam to do those w/...alone they only add 5-10 hp...If you need plugs do em if not its a big pita to change them on a LT1...Coils nothing big if you wanna replace it go ahead...neither the coil or plugs will give you any performance gain...next mod for you should definately be headers and maybe a good catback hands down. Finish your bolt ons 1st

Re: next mod or not?

I changed my gears I went to 4.10s Motive and a PCM adjustment and could not be more pleased. Total different car now.

Re: next mod or not?

3.73 would be a huge jump. Personally I would change out the shocks to gain ride/handling.

Re: next mod or not?

Whats your budget like? Were you looking at new prices for those parts or getting used ones? Also are you going to be installing the mods yourself? Let us know so we can give you some more advice/decisions.

thanks

Re: next mod or not?

I added a MSD coil today.
I think maybe not 1 mod but all togather so far has really woke the car up.
The biggest noticeable gain was hollowing out the cat converter.
I'm thinking of doing the Telestar rim switch over to 15X4s/165/15s and 15X8s/275/60s and then the gear change.
Tomorrow im going to unplug the knock sensor and add the 3.9k resister to see what happens.

I still would have to say gear swap. Makes a big diff.

Re: next mod or not?

Headers. I have mine on the way, coated pacesetters with their ORY and O2 extensions shipped to my door 588.95 from redlineperformance.com. I'll be doing my plugs and getting ovtc wires and MSD 6al with blaster coil from my buddy for 200 at the same time of the install and I'll be getting percy gaskets as well. So total install of around 850 give or take. And it will be WELL worth it.

I'd go with headers way before anything else especially a gear because the benefits are overwhelming with headers compared to gearing. With headers you get a slight increase in fuel economy once the pcm is tuneed for them, you get better access to plugs and wires, large power gain, better sound imo, and hell even a slight weight decrease over the stock boat anchor manifolds.

Re: next mod or not?

Again, headers would be my choice for your next mod, with a catback to go with it. The headers/Y-pipe are going to run you about $550 or so, depending on what you get, and the catback is $250+. They are not the cheapest mods, but will give you a BIG change. My car went from trapping 98.5 mph with a CAI, to 105 mph with headers, catback and 1.6 RR's.

Don't do any ingnition or wiring unless the car has a problem. My ignition/electical is all stock except for plugs, and the car runs perfect.

Re: next mod or not?

Go with gears. Headers are overrated. I put in headers a couple of years ago and gained peak hp but lost alot of low end torque. I ended up being 2 tenths slower in the 1/4.

Re: next mod or not?

What??? Headers are over rated?? lol Considering how many friends of mine I've personally watched drill off anywhere from two tenths to nearly a second just from headers and a tune. A buddy of mine got a set of Pacesetter LT's and went from running 13.40s trapping 104 to running a 12.6 trapping 109 with just the headers/ORY and tune. What kind of headers did you put on?? Did you tune the pcm afterward??

Personally I wouldn't even be thinking about this. I would just be getting the headers simply put. I put in a gear and it was noticable yes, and rode in my buddies with the 4.10 when he got it installed. There is a difference yes, but the benefits aren't near what the headers give.

Of all the f-bodies I have been in after header or gear changes (and there have been quite a few!), I have never experienced a seat of the pants difference with headers. The cars sounded louder but didn't feel any different. Now if you got a built engine (cam, heads, rr's, or some combination of the like) then I would say that headers will do some good. But for the car in question headers are overrated. IMHO if I were him I would be getting a stall. But that wasn't one of his choices. As for my car I have the CAI and 2OTL from SLP, a tune, and the headers which are Edelbrocks. When I switched from 3.42's to 4.10's I went from 13.6 @ 102 to the current best that is in my sig. After the headers were installed I went down to a 13.4 @ 105. Had my car dynoed before and after and after the headers I gained 7 rwhp but lost roughly 15 rwtq from 2500 to 4400.
