Oil Leak At Back Of Engine
Oil Leak At Back Of Engine
I have a 93 firebird with a 5.7 litre. I had an oil leak at the backof the engine in the fall and thought that it was the rear main seal, I have changed it and the leak is stil there. I cant see exactly where the oil is coming from but it is from somewhere at the back of the engine possibly the intake manifold. I was just woundering if there could possibly be anywhere else that the oil could be coming from. The oil is running down the right side of the bell housing.
Thanks for any help

Re: Oil Leak At Back Of Engine
sounds like notorious lt1 intake leak. I did mine. It took me a while to figure out where it was comming from. I guess what happens is that the egr pipe at the back of the intake manifold gets really hot and the factory sealant at the back of the manifold gives way. Once u get in there u can confirm that that was the problem if u see disscoloration on the old sealant. Just take off the manifold and replace the sealant and gaskets. i used purmatex ultra copper and had no problems just remember to torque the bolts in the right order and the right amount. Shoebox's site should have the torque specs.

Re: Oil Leak At Back Of Engine
Just do a search for Shoebox's name and then find the links in the bottom of his signature. He does have a section for replacing the intake manifold and it is very helpful. Good luck with the repair.
