oil in the intake

I am having a problem getting the intake to seal to the heads. It keeps leaking and sucking oil from the lifter valley into the intake. I have tried 3 different gaskets, I even used that toyota sealer that is supposed to be so good. The heads are new trickflow, they have been ported but they were not shaved. The car has no power at low rpm, I hope this is the cause. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: oil in the intake

It is probably reversion doing it and not the gasket fit. The cam overlap will do it and so will the breather hose from the valve cover to the TB.

It seems like it is leaking at the gaskets. The gaskets that I took off had oil on the face of the gasket.

All the ones that are paper and not plastic that I have taken off, that had oil in the intake, looked like that. It is coming from the inside most of the time.

Racer would you mind explaining exactly what oil reversion is? I'm having a similar problem with my LT4 intake, (oil in the intake passages). I'm running aftermarket valve covers with breathers, no PCV valve. How the hell do I fix the problem, I thought I was looking at an intake to head sealing issue.

Do you know of a method to prevent this? This weekend I found that I have the same issue--Would it help if I did not run the hose from the valve cover to the TB, but rather to a catch can? I don't understand why that hose is there anyway...

That is the source for fresh air to replace what is sucked out of the crankcase by vacuum thru the PCV valve.
A filter can be installed between the TB and valve cover to prevent TB and intake manifold contamination.

Here's a link to a remedy and part #'s.

Re: oil in the intake

It really confuses things when a couple people tack their issues onto an existing thread. "SC/TA" has a blower motor. That creates a whole different set of issues with regard to the PCV system and the vent line from the throttle body to the valve cover.

SC/TA:

How is your PCV system set up? You can't leave the vent line from the TB to the valve cover. That would allow the blower to pressurize the crankcase. That alone could make the sealing of the intake a problem. The pressure could be forcing oil [past the gaskets, if that is in fact how the oil it getting there.

You also can't use the regular PCV valve vacuum routing from the PCV valve to the port on the intake manifold under the throttle body. The intake manifold pressure would prevent the PCV valve from working. I thought with blowers it was usual to reroute the PCV valve to the suction side of the blower???? That in turn creates another problem, due to any oil entrainment. You don't want oil at the suction of the blower, so you put an oil seperator in the line from the PCV valve to the blower suction piping.

You might want to try posting this on the Forced Industion board, since they should have a bit more expertise on the oil control issues in a blower motor.
