Oil got into opti, but from the inside?
Car has been stumbling backfiring etc so I decided to replace the cap and rotor, while I got it off I notice that there is oil inside. Some of it is on the opti itself and that looks like it leaked in from the outside. This is what baffles me, there is oil on the slotted disk inside and judging from the the pattern it made on it, it looks like it came from the the middle of it and through the spinning, spread its way outward.
Any ideas how this happened? By the way I'm not taking any chances I'm just gonna get a brand new unit.

It probably leaked in and got on the disc when the car was sitting. Then, when you started the car, it centrifuged outwards on the disc. Thats the only explanation I can think of.. oil shouldnt origionate from inside the distributor.

I've got mine apart right now,and where it can come in is down the wiring harness from a intake manifold leak and if the front seal around the ballancer is leeking witch mine was then it came in between the seals of the Opti. Fix these two leaks if both are leaking, and no more oil in the Opti!
