Oil Cooler???

Well, I stopped by my mech's last nite and my new short block was sitting there waiting to get the parts from my, fu up lt1, transferred.

Seems now that I can't locate the oil cooler system that my 97SS came with from SLP.

SLP doesn't know where to get one. The GM dealers don't show the number.

What the hell am I supposed to do now?

I want the damn thing back the way it was, including the oil cooler.

Cool

You can get an oil filter bypass kit from summit. I would get that before the GM one as i've heard too many problems. I'm going with the dual remote filter so I don't have to bang around on my headers to get the filter off

The stock/factory cooler on my 94 had a "Moroso" label on it. Can't believe GM doesn't stock a replacement. What is wrong with the one that is already on your engine? Can't you just swap it over to the new block?

A few people have removed the oil cooler. Might be able to pick one up if you ask here and on the "parts" forums.

Im taking mine off because of how they are designed. As soon as the oil filter starts to get the slightest amount of dirt in it, it will bypass the filter and run directly through the cooler. Also bleeds off oil pressure.

Well, I have searched high and low for the damn oil cooler, but it seems they are no longer in the world. Was told by SLP guy to just clean it up good and use it again. This, of course, has already been suggested by Injuneer (thanks).

Any, I guess my mech. will be doing something like that.

The BIG question I have now is: do you suppose that it was the damn oil cooler that screwed up my engine (8K on odom) to begin with?

Its been mentioned here that it might cause problems. Do you suppose it might be the culprit?

Altgar: Do you have any source data to direct me to regarding your opinion?

Thanks much.

Cool

If you had it on a engine that was blown, i wouldn't resuse the cooler or anything due to debris, unless you had it hot tanked.

Bubba-
Really gotta get under there and see how the lines are routed to see what i mean by "by-passing the filter". If you look at how it is designed you will see.

As for the oil pressure, im not really sure the reason behind it ??? A buddy ripped his off about 2 weeks ago and saw almost 20psi more pressure (from 40 to 60) in the upper rpms.

Mine is comming off this week and i hope to see similiar results. If you want ill let you know how it comes out. I have ~40 psi too at 6k. Not good. I want at least 60, doubt ill see anymore than that without changing the pump spring out to the white one.
