OEM Computers Limits

I was working on a new 396 setup for my car and will be switching to a solid roller setup and was wondering if the computer will be able to handle a cam on a 106 intake lobe centerline and 110 lobe seperation?

Re: OEM Computers Limits

I'm sure with a good tune it can handle that, but it wont rev much past 7000 rpm as that's the limit of stock pcm.

Re: OEM Computers Limits

I have heard of a few people revving to around 7200 rpm with stock PCM.

Re: OEM Computers Limits

There is nothing about LSA per se that will tax the stock computer, suitably repropgrammed, of course. But as mentioned, the rpm is going to be restricted. Most likely, you won't have the heads to support over 7K on a 396 anyway, no matter what cam is selected. Frankly, I wonder how you decided on a 110LSA SR cam? Sounds like a very high revver, unless the duration is unusually small. And again, you are going to have a hard time getting enough air into a 396 to run very high rpm, unless you are planning on a head and intake conversion or something.

Have you thought through your parts as a combination?

Re: OEM Computers Limits

The parts I am using are:

AFR 220cc Compitition portd heads
LT4 Intake that is race ported by Advanced Induction

That should be able to feed the 396 up to 7200rpm.

The stock PCM will not read past 7200 RPM, if you need to go that high you will need some sort of aftermarket management.
