Odd question about shifters
Odd question about shifters
I bought a shortshifter the other night from a friend, not sure what brand it is but we know its not a Holley
But the boot on it is pretty torn up
If I installed it, would I have problems with tranny fluid or something leaking due to the boot being torn up? Or do the shifters seal at the bottom somehow?
Anyone have experience with torn shifter boots?
(i'm referring to the actual rubber/plastic boot on the bottom of a short shifter/stock shifter, not the leather boot)

The boot on an aftermarket short-throw shifter is generally there to keep dirt of the top of the shifter, where it might get in the shifter pivot and cause premature wear, and eventually enter the tranny. The boot is not there to "seal" the shifter to the tranny. That is taken care of by running a small bead of RTV around the top of the tranny shifter mount surfaces, before you bolt the shifter on. That's what retains any fluid and prevents dirt from getting into the tranny.
