Hesitation at high revs

i did a search but my problem is a little different the all the ones i could find.
my car started to hesitate today. if i boot it, it runs fine until about 4 thousand rpm then it hesitates and really just doesn't want to go any faster. but when i change gear, it runs fine again until the same rpm. it hesitates at all temps.
i had a similar problem with my old car and it turned out to be the ECU wiring. could this be the same problem? i don't even know where the ECU is, as i am quite new to these cars. Or could this have something to do with an airleak?
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks, Mike

I am having the same problem with my car. I was told it was an exhaust manifold leak and a clogged cat. I have gotten a new cat and the manifolds are off waiting for my headers to come in. I am hoping that this will fix it.

If it is an exhaust leak it could be doing it.

you dont have a mass air flow, so the leak in your intake hose is not the problem. how bout your MAP sensor? thats the sensor that tells the pcm how much load is on the motor. so if its off, your gonna lose alot of performance. if you have a buddy around that can swap sensors real quick w/ya thatd make it easy to test it. also, describe the problem better. does it feel likes it missing, hitting the revlimiter, or just bogging down and no acceleration? have you checked for a vacuum leak in the intake mann.? replaced the plugs yet? those are all common problems that will have your complaint result from them being bad.
oh yeah, and a clogged fuel filter or low fuel press. will also do that.

Your car is stock so it seems a little strange but it sounds like your timing is getting retarded. Maybe the knock sensor is going crazy with the exhaust leak.
