OBD2 diagnotic tools

Hey all. I'm an ex-dealership tech. So I'm really used to having a TECH2 at my disposal when needed.

My question is: what is the best alternative diagnostic tool? I dont want a simple "scan tool". I want a decent system that will let me diagnose as well as "command" ECM and BCM functions. The TECH2 is about $4500 (not an option!!).

I see dozens of hand held scanners offered online, and twice that many software packages for my PC or laptop.

Anyone got some insight and/or advice??

Thanks!

There is a new scanner from Snap-on not the modis but one step down. You could also get a good deal on a repo'd color graphing scanner from SO also.

Auto-Tap is one of the best Diagnostic program avaiable and LT1 Edit is a very good Tuning program. But both have a $$$$ price.
