OBD1 to OBD2, I have a question about the Knock sensor

I know I can change over my LT4 KM to the 95 OBD1 PCM, but I keep reading theres some other knock sensor I need...or something..

Can someone shed some light on this for me? The OBD1 PCM just plugs right in correct?

I've read the archives...

thnx,

lbrowne

I used the LT4 ODB2 KM with my ODB1 PCM and used the ODB2 knock sensor as well. The LT4 knock sensors are different, so if using the LT4 KM, you should use the LT4 knock sensor also.

If nothing is changed in the wiring or pcm to adapt it, you need to match the knock sensor to the OBD type.

OBD-I needs an OBD-I knock sensor
OBD-II needs an OBD-II knock sensor

The sensors are different between the two (have different impedances). AFAIK, there is not a specific LT4 knock sensor. Just get a 96-97 knock sensor if you are going to OBD-II.

You can't use an OBDII knock sensor on an OBDI car. They're not compatible. LT4 KM - yes, but sensor - no.

LT4 knock sensor is the same thing as a regular OBDII (96-97) knock sensor.

So are you going from OBDII to OBDI? If so, get the conversion from madz28.com or pcmforless.com. They will sell you a tuned OBDI ECM wthat will work with your OBDII knock sensor.

I can get a OBD1 PCM for cheap, which is what I want to put in my 96 OBD2 TA because of the cheaper programming costs.

So let me get this straight.

I can take out my OBD2
Remove the LT4 KM
Install LT4 KM into OBD1 PCM

Install OBD1 PCM, plugs right in.

Where is this knock sensor that I have to change?

Can you see my confusion now?

If you do all those steps (and yes, everything will be a direct swap) you will still need to swap to a 94-95 knock sensor, which is located in the lower, passenger side of the block. It has one wire going to it and it's of round shape.
