O2 sim question

Ok.. I used the search but just could not find what I was looking for so I will ask it real quick.

I have a friend that has a 94 or 95 Formula (cant remember which). He is thinking about doing a couple of things which include possibly headers. He asked me if he would throw a code if he took the cat off. I told him yeah unless he got an O2 sim. He told me he didnt have a O2 sensor behind the cat... so I dont know if he will throw a code or not.

Can anyone help on this? If he took the cat off will he need a o2 sensor to keep from throwing codes?

94 or 95 is OBD1. No sims required.

no you wont throw a code, its obd1 computer with no o2 sensors behind the exaust. I have a 95 with a gutted cat, no SES lights ever.

There is nothing there to plug a sim into, if you had one (or two ). You must retain the pre-cat O2s for good engine management. OBD-I does not really care much about the cat (pretty much why they changed it with OBD-II).
