O2 sensors gone bad?

Over the past couple months my opti was dying but I continued to drive my car (1994 Z28). I probably put 10,000 miles on it from the time I first noticed something was wrong until recently when it was just too bad to drive. So I put in new plugs and wires and installed the delteq system. Car is running better now but it is still rougher than before the opti started acting up. I'm just wondering if driving it for so long could have fouled my O2 sensors which is preventing it from running right. If so, are the 2 sensors near the exhaust manifolds the only ones I should replace or are there more that I'm missing?

Re: O2 sensors gone bad?

Your 94 only has two O2 sensors..... one at the base of the drivers side exhaust manifold, and the other on the passenger side Y-pipe, right below the exhaust manifold. Misfires cause the engine to run excessively rich. Its possible you fouled the O2 sensors. Have you ever had it scanned to see how its running, including a look at the O2 sensor readings?

I just replaced my passenger side O2 sensor. Why is it that on my '94 Camaro LT1, the passenger side O2 sensor is on the exhaust manifold and the driver's side sensor is on the Y-pipe, opposite of what you said? Just curious. Eveything is stock.

Re: O2 sensors gone bad?

Appreciate all the info. I'll give the new sensors a try. Can anyone tell me what a good price would be for them before I call the dealership?

Re: O2 sensors gone bad?

You want to go with AC Delco O2's from a dealership, don't bother getting any other type. $34.07 from GM, part #25312184. Look at shoebox's website http://shbox.com/1/Parts.htm

Also call Dal or Jason Cromer for their pricing. It might be the same price but shipping would probably be cheaper.

I replaced my passenger side o2 with a bosch when I had about 50K on the car . I now have 96k and have recently replaced both o2s becouse of the car running rich and I figured it was time to replace the driver side (factory with 96K) and the passenger side( about 40K miles on it) with AC delco sensors, before I got another SES light .

I did not get another SES light with the bosch sensor eventhough I have read many times " do not use bosch o2s on GM cars" .

I guess I just "followed the crowd" on this one .
