O-rings on the Opti driveshaft

What are the o-rings sealing? I removed the opti, so I could replace it. The o-rings were missing. Would this cause the lifters to be noisy, do to the lack of oil pressure?

Also, the opti driveshaft seal was leaking oil. I'm having a hard time finding a replacement on a saturday. Everywhere I call, is special order and won't be here until tuesday.

Re: O-rings on the Opti driveshaft

It has 2 o-rings and doubt it would cause the lifters to be noisy. It would just make a small leak into the timing cover.

Re: O-rings on the Opti driveshaft

They are not for oil control or sealing. As far as I can tell, they are only there to stabilize the shaft.

Correcto rob

The o rings matter nothing for sealing as they dip into a hole in the camshat that goes nowhere. They are simpley there for the stability control of the opti. Any o ring that will resist oil and temps will work fine. I've found them at lowes and other hardware stores.

Re: O-rings on the Opti driveshaft

Cool, now I need to figure out why the lifters are noisy. I hve had an oil leak and noisy lifters, all in the same week. Had to speical order a new opti drive seal, it won't be here until tuesday. Planning on pulling the covers today, hoping to find a loose rocker.
