o rings on end of opti shaft broke off, does this matter

I had to repull my opti to replace all the seals on the timing chain cover so they won't leak anytime soon since I was in there to replace my large oil leaking water pump seal, anyway after taking off the opti I touched the end of the shaft and the plastic or rubber o rings on the end of it just fell into pieces. This is the part that slides into the cam hole, I guess they lock it into place and keep it from moving around. Now I'm wondering if I should stick it back in there without any rings or go to either the hardware store for some rubber o rings or try and get GM ones, if they sell them. I really don't want to spend any more money, but I'm sure the opti is on borrowed time so I don't want to take chances and fry the thing cause I didn't spend a few extra bucks. Anyone have this problem or a solution?

I know you don't want to spend money...but O-Rings are very cheap...they're there to keep the opti centered on the camshaft...replace them before you put it back together.
