Now that the heads are off....

So the warranty company made me have the mechanic takes the heads off to determine if they would cover the car. Then they tell me no, that the car isnt stock, so its not covered. When I bought the car it wasnt stock, btu wtf ever. Its on the contract which was purchased when I purchased the modified car. But, thats a whole other issue. Back to the topic at hand.

I think i have decided what i want to do, except cam wise.

LT4 Heads (might get them ported, dunno yet)
LT4 Intake (its red! )
1.6 RR's

Now, what about the cam?

This car is my daily driver. I drive about 70 miles a day. Its an A4 with 3.73 gears. I will be getting the tranny built when it goes (shouldnt be long now). I have Jet-Hot LT's, Custom Y, and Borla as well.

I am thinking the xe 224/230. I hear its very streetable. I want to break 350rwhp which I dont think will be a problem. The question is, if i went with a 230/236 would it be streetable? With ported LT4 heads, would I be able to break 400rwhp? I know I know, you cant say sure you can! But im just looking for opinions.

One last thing in my never ending post. Will the springs on the LT4 heads be enough (i doubt it) for the either of those cams? And if not, what springs would be best and what 1.6RR's would yall recomend.

Ok, enuf, Im done.

How much are LT4 heads, and how much for porting? You'll save in the long run by going with an aftermarket head if I were you. AFR - www.airflowresearch.com - makes LT1 heads in several configurations. Ive seen these heads (at least the SB ford one's) and they are well made nice heads, real thick decks, CNC ported, make tons of power w/o sacrificing velosity.

If you really want to save money, get your stock one's ported, only about $600 including the valve job and all. The guy did mine and it made a huge difference.

yeah, but the LT4's have more potential than my stock ones. sure ported LT1's flow better now. but ported LT4's will flow better later. i called a local shop (forget the name) and they will do a valve job and port for 400. that seems damn cheap. i gotta check into their reputation .

AFR also makes LT4 heads. AFR's are about $1300-1500 a set. GM is still having a feild day with thier LT1 parts because there is such a small aftermarket. Now there are heads and even I heard of an intake manifold being made.

I am willing to bet that AFR's heads would but LT4's to shame.

The 230/236 is very streetable. I drive it all over the place in Los Angeles traffic with no problems. You have to get it professionally dyno tuned. Mine drives almost like stock.

If I were you, I'd go with ported LT1 heads. You can get a lot of performance for less money. Decent used LT1 heads go for $200-250 here all the time. Spend $1200 on porting, new springs and valves, and you have a head that dramatically outflows the LT4 (unless you psned the same kind of money on porting the LT4s of course). Even the AFRs don't do that well out of the box. Numerically, my LT1s stack up pretty well against AFR's 195cc LT4 Competition Port heads that cost almost $2500
