Not passing smog- Here are the codes... help please!

Hi,
I am in CA. I know my car will not currently pass smog. Currently its not registered or insured. My buddy hooked up his labtop and used his OBDII software to check my car out.

One code is P0430- TWC system low effiency Bank 2 (i beleive this means my 2nd cat is bad?)

also the software states that-

02 sensor monitoring system is incomplete and
EGR monitoring system is incomplete

Does anyone know how i can easily make these systems be complete? without driving around for hundreds of miles?

any help would be great. Car is 96 WS6 TA w/ 6speed. I have deprogrammed and capped my cutout for the test.

i dont know a whole lot about these cars, but usually that all means your O2 sensor is bad, and maybe even your EGR valve as well... did the car have a check engine light? or how did you get those codes? heres my advice........ if there is a check engine light, fixt it... no doubt... but if its smog thats pissing in your cheerios... just get a friend in the business..... he will know what to do ;-) how you think all these guys get away with SCs, and cams and heads, and X pipes.......... take a long break and think about it....

P0430 = Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) system low efficiency Bank 2

You have two cats, one on each "bank" of the engine. Bank 2 is the cylinders on the passenger side. The code means the after-cat sensor on the passenger side is indicating that the cataytic convertor is not performing at required efficiency. Could be a worn out cat, could be a faulty after-cat O2 sensor?

Do you have cats? Do you have O2 sims? Have you deleted the EGR system? Has the PCM been reprogrammed?

the SES light is on. I had the Hypertech programmer but i went back to stock and still the SES light comes on. I have cats and don't have o2 sims. I don't beleive i have deleted the EGR system? don't know what that means, or how its done. Is there anyway to make these test become complete without driving forever?

thanks

oh yea, if you replace the CAT get one from the dealer only. dont try and stick a high flow cat on there

my ses light is on for the same code..i dont have cats. the rear o2 sensor is just telling me that it knows something is up. i would go buy simms...but the light doesnt really bother me...it gives the dash a lil character, makes it a lil unique... i see alot of trans am's around here, but how many of them have their SES light on?? only me.

yea.....i dont mean that. i just cant afford simms. and im selling the car, so i dont care

a cat inificenty code most always means repalce the converter, unless you can do some further testing, just go ahead and repalce the coverter and while your there repalce the O2s.
there is a special way to drive a vehicle to make the monitors run, but its usualy a waste of time trying.

OK.... before you assume the Mr. Goodwrench approach of randomly replacing parts until you find the one that fixes it , and dump big $$$$ for a factory convertor, try this.... swap the after-cat O2 sensors side-to-side. If the problem follows the sensor (switches to the other bank) its confirmed as a sensor problem. If the problem stays on the same bank, it EITHER a wiring problem or a convertor problem. Cost of making this check = "0".

I also don't agree that you need to stick to factory sourced cats.... I've had excellent luck with CarSound high flow cats.... those, along with some good tuning allowed my 230/242 solid roller 381 pass NJ rolling emissions. And they cost a lot less than the dealer is going to charge you.

ive talked with a pro muffler guy, and he said there is no such thing as a "high performance" cat... they make good cats at a high flow rate, but anything costing you a bundle with some name on it is just a waste of money according to him. i listened, and switched to his cats..... cheap... efficient... and you can definately tell the difference!
