Thumbs up It was NOT the opty!!! see inside for fix info!!

GAD DANG!!! Barooom!! she started in one cranck or less!!!

Ok here is the problem as it happened.. I went home in the morning after a nights partying , slept all day and went to start the car at night and drive to the grocery store.... then it hit She started right away but it was rough and I began to hear some clicking sounds in the back... I was like what the hell?? did I get an animal stuck back there ?? A wood pecker trying to scape the heat of the exhaust??

Anyway she began to miss randomly and badly at all engine temps, I put the scanner on and it logged the IAC counts lower then the learn idle position, (vacum leak?) the fuel trims were off too... one at 131 the other at 138... it began to stumble and when driving the problem seem to disapeared each time I gave her more gas.... but at idle it just plain sucked and after about two days it had got worse and it was poppin through the mufflers at pretty much all RPM's

So I figured My Opticock kicked the bucket right?? wrong... I almost called that guy in Florida to order a new one but I listen to my guts and decided to replace the spark plug wires and the spark plugs.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM: I found three pinholes on the #8 sparkplug wire. As if someone went in with a niddle and poked it. The wire was in great condition other wise. Also my # 1 NGK sparkplug had a hairline crack on the inside porcelain insert. It was covered with very strange deposits too, it look like rust deposites but of a different color. All the other plugs were in perfect condition and very clean. I can tell you guys that I am using the best heat range ever. see my sig. I changed the sparplug wires, changed only one spark plug (for testing) while at it I changed my 02's with new AC Delcos (old ones were originals with over 140k miles on them) Since I had to remove the passenger CAT anyways I took the opportunity to replace that leaky Oil lever sending unit, of course I gave her an oil change, a new serpentine belt, and put her back together.

After just seating there for 4 days I turned the key and crancked her and BAROOOMMMMM! she came alive almost instantaneoulsly.... I swear I dont think it took one crank of the engine... I drove her around and its smooth like a babys butt!!

One thing I wanna ad is that the intake manifold vacum was at 21 inches when she was misfiring and the IAC counts were lower than those learned at idle position. Pretty weird if you ask.

To make my point.... its not always the OPTY. I will be ordering a new one anyway and will change it at my leasure some day in my future...

What!!! how can this be? I know header has to be a pain in the butt... but a head gasket? you mustve run into serious trouble there somewhere.

Hey here is an idea for you... I purchase one "ink pen" looking device that has a little lite inside... Its an ignition spart tester. Its so simple and neat... all you have to do is aproach the tip of it to any spark plug (not even contact is required) and the little light begins to flash.....I used it to diagnose my problem and I cant do without it anymore. Try it on your coil to opty wire and then the spark plug wires after the opty.

In my case it was firing on all eight but sometime the little light would flash higher on those cylinders where I found the problem at..

haha, well, it didnt take ALL that time. i only had 2 days to work on it during the week, and was constantly ordering new parts. also doesnt help that i was in a GP for mac headers, but after 3 months of them "still not ready" i canceled the order and got edelbrocks
