Is this a normal problem for an edelbrock throttle body?

I just bought a 58mm edelbrock throttle body off ebay, brand new, and it came new in the box. When I got it, I noticed the blades were at an angle, they aren't even close to closing all the way. The difference in distance from the blades at the top and bottom of the throttle body is over 1/2 an inch, and when you open it up all the way it goes past the 90 degree mark, closer to 100 degrees, so it starts closing again. And I know it will idle high as hell with the blades as open as they are. I'm guessing I'm going to have to send it back and get a new throttle body.

1/2" ???? that's not right at all.
The car would idle at 3000+ rpm LOL

Make sure there isn't a foam peanut in there keeping it open
and if there is a screw to adjust idle, see if you can get it to close.
If not, I'd be askin' the seller some questions.

I think the computer compensates if the blades are open to much at idle, but still thats ****edup. Going WOT would not be wot since the blades are closing again. There has to adjustments on the sides of that tb to change it, or an adjustment screw somewhere where the cable attaches.

I could just drill into the tb and put a screw in the stop so the blades don't open too far, but I don't want to do that to a brand new $300 part. . And it looks like it will idle ok, the blades are on an angle, but they seem to be sealed ok, its only a small part of light that you can see through it.

Did you back off the throttle stop screw? Typically, they are adjusted out way too far.

Ok, at an angle is normal as long as it seals.
I'm a little concerned that it goes past 90* though, there should be a stop built into the throttle linkage.
I'll have to go look at mine.

I tried, but then the blades started sticking, so I moved it back out to right past the part where they don't stick, it seems sealed ok....

It does, but it goes past the 90 degree part, more like the 95-100 degree mark, and the only way for me to stop it from opening too far is to put a screw in the stop, which I guess might be better than sending it back and waiting for a new one. And I'm doing this off my car, I haven't put it on yet, I still have to get my intake manifold ported.

Well I called edelbrock and they said thats how it's supposed to be, so I guess everything is ok... Can anyone with a 58mm edelbrock throttle body chime in an tell me if theirs opens past the 90 degree mark too?
