A Miss after a swap to tr-55's and jegs power wires

I pulled out the old ngk tr-6's and replaced them with ngk tr-55's. my taylors were getting a little burnt up so i bought soem jegs power wires. it ran fine for a day and then after that it sputters and misses. i continuously check the connection at the optispark and at the plugs. all is well.....it can't be the plugs. Is it possibe the wires are just completele ****? i mean i car should run on walmart wires, but wtf? This is really pissing me off.

What are the plugs gapped at? I had problems with the TR55s fouling until I dropped the gap to 0.035".

sound silly but yes its probly the wires. ask anyone on here put on a set of wires your car doesnt like. and presto missing and sputtering. the best pick funny enough isnt the same for every person. try another brand or go back to your taylors if they worked for ya.

I'd recheck all the wires and make sure none are burnt. Since it ran fine for a day, I bet its a burnt wire.

no burnt wires. i ran them way far away from the headers.

your wires might still be arching from being heat soaked. it will break down the material. and cause them to go bad.

to closest thing to the headers are the plug boots themselves. the rest of the wires i have tucked away. my taylor were practically laying on the headers in some spots and i never had problems.

Re: A Miss after a swap to tr-55's and jegs power wires

I have the exact same setup (wires and plugs). I have had great success with my Jeg's wires considering I bought them because they were cheaper than the MSD's or Accel's. I have not had any missing or anything since installing the plugs or wites. But of course that does not mean that they are all the same. There are a couple things I would check though. First would be the gap of the plugs. Like was said earlier, you may need to decrease it a bit. The other thing I would check are the boots that connect to the opti. One thing I have noticed with the straight style boot is that the terminal inside can slip within the boot and actually be far enough away that it doesn't make a good connection. I have had this problem with both Accel wires and with the Jeg's wires. I have always double checked them prior to installation, but I can see how it could be missed. Good luck with it.

just swap the back with the taylors and you will know for sure if its the wires or not.

Re: A Miss after a swap to tr-55's and jegs power wires

i just found out today that because of a hotter plug being used now, it leaned the car out in the low rpm....not acting alone, of course. Turns out my **** mail order tune has a ton of timing down low and causing it to run lean and surging as little bit. with the tr-6's, the tune was good enough to run fine, but now that it burns more complete, its showing its face. i took it to a reputable guy in town and got some good stuff out of it.
