In a non vented opti....

..are there ANY vaccum lines at all that come out of it? Or is it completely sealed? No vaccum line to the intake, and no vaccum line to the intake elbow, correct?

Thanks

No vacuum lines at all on an unmolested unvented Opti.

Cool

There are no lines but it is not sealed. There are two small holes in the bottom for it to drain.

Actually there's 3 holes in the bottom..
No vacuum hoses etc though..
You can convert it to vented theres a 'Corvette Fever' mag article on that..

wouldnt it be better to have been completely sealed air-tight in the first place?

No, the idea is to let out the ionized air caused by the arcing that occurs between the rotor and the cap as it attacks the seals, plastic etc.

Also, if you have ever owned a boat trailer with water proof lights, you learn the first thing you do is drill holes in them because "waterproof" doesn't mean the water will never get in. It just means it can't get out once it does get in

Okay, Here is why I ask.

While pulling the motor in my buddies 97, we somehow someway broke the plastic piece off the opti that the vaccum hose to the intake manifold clamps on to. The other hose to the intake elbow is just fine and still connected. My question is should we plug the spot where it broke with epoxy or just let it vent to the open air? From what you guys are saying about 93'-94' opti's, that just letting it vent to the atmosphere should be okay.

Remember the vent holes on the 94 are on the bottom and small so less likely to have water entry (so they say!) I am not sure where the fitting you mentioned is located but I would be nervous about leaving it open.

Do you have the piece that broke off? Did you try to glue it back on? I highly recommend Loctite 495. It is an awsome CCA glue that will hold stronger than original. You can order it from Grainger or McMaster Carr. I used it to glue a 2 foot tear under my front bumper cover. Stuff has been holding for 5 years now.

Unfortunately we dont have the piece that broke off. We already epoxy'd over the hole so what I will do is take the tinyist drill bit I can find and poke a small hole in there for venting.
