Noisy engine
Noisy engine
Morning men, I've been out checking the adjustment on my valves.....again. My valve train is very noisy, kinda like a thrashing machine. It was noisy when I built it and it's gotten noisier over the last 5k miles. I used LS7 lifters and I've tried every lash from 1/8 turn to a full turn. No difference. I do not have self-aligning rockers (Comp Pro- Mags) and Comp guide plates with the Comp pushrods.
I have a XFI 280 cam 230/236, 570/576 lift cam. I also have the Beehives. The new peened style. When I bought this cam I read that it ramps up quickly and I was wondering if it might be too fast causing a little bouncing and thus noise. I'm at a loss right now. The Impala runs great and makes tons of power. It's faster than my neighbors new Vette and not quite as fast as brother-in-laws new Z06. Although he can beat me I'm not embarrassed. He's maybe a car and a half ahead from 0 to 100.
Does anyone have any ideas? The valve covers are off now. I get some but very little oil to the valves at idle (850 rpm) but when I rev it oil goes all over the fender well. I just found out. Oil pressure hot is about 40 at idle and about 65 at 3000 rpm. Any ideas???
Thanks, --Bill--
