No start
No start
This is my first post here and I would appreciate any advice anyone can give.
I have a 96 Z28 and I recently took it on a small trip an hour away from home. Vehicle ran just fine on the way there with the cruise set to 70. On the way back home, I was caught in a bad thunderstorm and downpour. About 30 miles after I went through the rain storm, I decided to stop on the side of the road for about a minute or two (stupid bladder) and once I got back up to speed on the highway, the car just died like someone shut off the key.
I am sure I am not out of gas, I filled the tank on the car before leaving town, and I can hear the fuel pump priming up when I turn on the key. A friend mentioned I may have got the optispark wet and burned it up, but I am having doubts since the car was running perfectly before it just up and died.
I am just wondering if anyone had a similar circumstance.

Re: No start
First two checks would be scan it for codes and check the fuel pressure. There's at least one code for the Opti that shuts down the engine but doesn't turn on the SES light.
Re: No start
Thankfully it ended up not being the optispark or anything else major.
I ended up rechecking the fuses and noticed (this time) the ignition fuse was blown. It wasn't very noticeable and I overlooked it.
Car started up and idled just fine. Something must have got wet that shouldn't have and blew the fuse. Gonna check all the wiring this weekend and make sure nothing is out of the ordinary.

Re: No start
Well, I thought I had this figured out.
Looked over all the wiring that I could think of and did not see anything wrong. Wiggled wires around while the car was running also. Car starts up just fine and idles great and I can rev it up without problems. Due to it being summertime, I didn't let the car just sit and idle for more than 10-15 minutes. But, as long as it is sitting still it runs just fine.
The car has been parked at my parents house where I towed it to and been letting it dry out since it was pretty wet in places under the hood. Tonight I figured I would drive it home (10 blocks) and it blew the ignition fuse and died about 2 blocks from home. Replaced the fuse and made it another block and died again. Then it would pop the fuse and die about every 10 feet or so after 3 more fuses. I decided to just hulk up and push it home after that.
Only thing that I noticed is that the Ignition Control Module seemed very warm for such a short trip and guessing that could be my culprit or at least a clue to my problem(s)
I am thinking that the rain had nothing to due with my issues and the ICM just gave out since it looks like it could be original (97,000 miles)
Any thoughts?

Re: No start
I am 99.9% I have this resolved. I ended up replacing the ICM and when I was buttoning everything back up I noticed the connector to the ICM seemed loose. The rubber boot/ weather guard was missing. I replaced it with one I had and got the connection tight and snug.
I put around 50 miles on the car so far and everything seems to be fine.
Just updating this in case this information helps someone else.
