no power,batt/ign problem

i just finished putting the engine back in after lasts years little mishap /w the con rods.i tried using the old battery that has been dead for 6+ months, and it would make the starter click but thats it even with the 55amp starter/charger on it.i went to the zone and got a new battery and as soon as i turned the key,it acted like it blew a fuse, the dash went dead and it wouldn't crank or make any noise.the only power that works is the dome lights. ive check all the fuses under the hood and in the door jam. any ideas guys? ignition switch?thanks in advance for the advice.

ahhh, i figured it out. after keying on and off a bunch of times it decided to start working. ing switch must be a little corroded from not being used in a year, ill most likely be replacing it soon.

Does your security light stay on with the key in the on position? If yes you can bypass it until you get around to replace the ignition switch.

Man replacing that ignition switch is no joke. Taking the entire steering column apart. Also i was left stranded so id probably jump on this job if you know the wire is already pretty bad. Also like in the previous post you might want to bypass until your ready to replace it that way your not stranded.
