Do I want the knock sensor or knock module?

I've got a 94' Trans Am with Arizona Marine and Speed Mid Length headers.

I'm replacing the opti (considering doing the timing chain as well, how long do these last?)

Do I want the LT4 knock sensor, or knock module?

Thanks!

LT4 knock module. The OBDII knock sensor will not work in your 94.

If you don't mind me asking, what's a 1994 Trans Am GT?

Actually, there were 4 models in 94 - Firebird, Formula, Trans Am and Trans Am GT:

http://www.ws6.com/faq/4_1.htm#ch4_1a

Trans Am GT - available only in 1994, same as the regular Trans Am, but with all the options including "up-level" rear spoiler and GS-C tires coming standard on the car. All 1993 Trans Ams had the GT treatment as standard, but they were not referred to as GTs. In 1995 and after, the treatment got broken down into a number of options like on the Formula.

Craziness...I've been in the F-body scene for years and I don't think I ever knew there was a Trans Am GT. I feel like a dummy.

If you are experiencing false knock from the headers then you need the module.

As for lifetime of the hardware - some distributors last a very long time, they are not the demon you might have been lead to believe. The timing chain / sprockets are bathed in oil. Their lifespan is coordinated with the life of a well maintained engine; about 200k but look for more replies.

Also keep in mind i had around two hundred and ten thousand miles on my z before i did my rebuild and i took it around the block with a two thousand dollar machine hooked up to it and the engine was running at ninety nine percent the corvette guy couldnt believe it. I told him i always change my oil and perform consistent tune ups. Either way if you have the money id change out my timing chain and water pump gear along with the distributor since these are known as the weakspots. When i did do my timing chain it was barely loose. I talked to another guy whose first time his opti went out was around two hundred thousand miles. Just depends if youve had water leaks how and when you drive your car and in what kind of conditions. Good luck on the change out though.
