So i get my car back from the shop last week after gettin the head gaskests fixed. Everythings fine until yesterday when i noticed i had no oil pressure at idle...maybe 20 driving around. The car has been overheating as well...shoots up to 210 pretty quick then drops back down fast after a bit. Also, if i hit the gas fast at idle it falls on its face..any suggestions?

Did the shop correctly bleed the air from the LT1's reverse flow cooling system?

Running at 210*F is not a problem. That's what GM designed the engine for - that's why 210*F is in the middle of the gauge. It is also odd that the temperature would drop "fast" from that level. The stock programming doesn't even turn the fans on at low speed until 226*F. Has your PCM been reprogrammed for different fan on/off temps, or a different t'stat rating? Did your shop replace the t'stat, possibly with the incorrect type for the LT1?

Check the rubber inlet elbow from the MAF sensor to the throttle body for tears, or the bottom edge not being fully over the lip of the throttle body. Make sure the MAF sensor is facing in the correct direction.

If you have "0" psi at idle, the "check gauges" light should be coming on. Is it? Minimum acceptable oil pressure at idle is 6psi, according to GM. Then you want at least 10psi/1000rpm..... 10psi at 1000rpm, 20psi at 2000rpm, etc. What was the oil pressure like BEFORE they did the head gaskets? What oil viscosity did they use when they changed it?

Have you brought these problems to the attention of the shop that did the work? What is their explanation?

 

Tstat is correct. Check light does come on when at idle. Ill check the elbow tonight.
