Angry No oil pressure. HELP

I was on my way home from work last night and on the higway I hit it and the tranny wouldnt shift from 2nd to 3rd and it pegged the RPMs. I let off and got back on it then it shifted into 3rd but at 85mph it wouldnt go any faster at all and stayed at 4000 rpm! So I let off all the way and the car started acting real sluggish like the trans was messed up and the car had no power it even sounded different. Then my check guages chimed at me and I noticed I had no oil pressure at all so I immediatly shut it down and pulled off the road. I let it sit for a min. and restarted it but still didnt get any oil pressure so I again immediatly shut it down.
I know Im going to need a new trans. becasue of the lack of shifting from 2 to 3 My question what caused my oil pressure to die off. I figure my oil pump took a dump from the high RPMs. I just hope my engine is going to be ok. The trans. is under warrenty but it looks like Im going to have to get a new oil pump. If it is the oil pump what is a good brand to get?

What method would I use to check if its the guage. If it is the guage why would the car have no power. I am going to pull the oil pan tommorow regardless just to be sure.

Ditto. You may want to check your oil for metal shavings.

Now Im stumped. I started it one more time and I have pressure but the needle jumps around a little bit. Could it have been the oil pressure sending unit? Why did the car not accelerate past 85 the day it happened? Could it have been the transmission causing this?

I would get a mechanical gauge from a mechanic freind and check oil pressure at the senders port. if its good your sender could be bad, you may have also had a wiring problem. The power is more than likely the tranny.

well I hooked up a mechanical guage and the pressure started in the 30s then dropped down to as low as 5 psi and the car started to chug down so that narrows it down to the oil pump correct?

Took off the oil pan and oil pump and there are metal shavings and a whole bunch of metal dust in the oil. And to my surprise some large objects on the pick up tube screen such as a little black plastic disk the size of a dime with a few holes in it, and a peice of aluminum bushing looking thing, and some decent size metal shavings, and a little magnetic pin about a 1/4 inch long and 1/16 in dia. The oil pump appears to be fine from visual inspection though. I am really starting to worry that something else is going on in my engine. Can anything else besides the oil pump cause low oil pressure? Maybe its just all the **** blocking the path for oil to flow but where did all of it, and the metal shavings come from?
Note while the engine was running there was NO knocking or weird sounds from the engine at all.

If you found all that in your pan you might as well yank her out. There is gonna be crap throughout the motor and it will only get worse. Once it is out you can really diagnose what went wrong. I wouldn't run her anymore at all. You might risk ruining reusable parts for your rebuild.

If you have a bunch of metal shavings than it maybe time for a rebuild. Bad bearings will cause low oil pressure.

What did your low oil level sender look like? a few of those peices sound like they are from it. Sonce you have the pan off take a gander at your bearings, if they look good clean the bottom with solvent under pressure, then lube up the bearings retorque , replace the oilpump (weld pick-up in place, and see how things go.
