Ever hear of Fram oil filters? Do not underestimate the power of marketing.

When I bought my 88 IROC in 1997, it had K&N filters in it. Since then I have put 110,000+ miles on it and it still runs great. Like everyone else, I feel the data may be a little skewed.

I don't find any thing surprising here. As someone stated in order to get more flow in the same area you have to have bigger holes. I'm not driving a truck in a dusty work area or a sandy desert. I also didn't see any info. on hole sizes or what size dirt particule is harmful. Why over filter? Lets say it takes a 20 micron dirt particule to harm your engine, any thing smaller just passes though unnoticed, and K&N has an 18 micron hole. What would be the point, other then advertising, to go with a 10 micron or 5 micron hole. No gain, more restrictive. The test also doesn't say that engines with the less restrictive filters wear out any faster. It doesn't address the issue of HOW MUCH filtering is NEEDED.

In this case, more may not be better!

I always thought the selling point of K&N is they know it doesn't flow as well as a paper filter, however, they flow constant since they will not get dirty, a paper filter will flow less overtime while a k&n will never lose its flow rate.
