No collector gaskets....How bad is this?

I was under my car installing my 1le driveshaft when i noticed that the shop that did my header install 2 weeks ago never put any collector gaskets on. The one on the drivers side you can tell is leaking. The passenger side looks like its okay. The problems is that when i took my car to the exhaust shop they welded the Y-pipe together to the flange bolts on the y-pipe. So now i can't take off the y-pipe and put the gasket on there.

I just wanted to know if this is gonna affect performance or anything like that. I know i have an exhaust leak. My car is running very rich but this is after the o2's so i don't think this will affect my rich condition.

Well i would if i could. The problem is right behind the y-pipe flange where it bolts up to the collector the exhaust shop welded right there. When they did it the weld is on the bolts. So now i can't take off the bolts. It is only like this on the drivers side collector(the one that i know is leaking). The passenger side i can unbolt and put a gasket on.

If it were me, I would drop the car back off at the shop that installed the Y and demand they do the job right.

I would think if you had no collector gasket at all, it would be leaking pretty bad ... unless they welded the Y pipe to the header?

Yeah, you need collector gaskets. What kind of stupid idiot would weld the bolts between the ypipe and header. You should name the shop so others are forewarned.

they welded your bolts together?? what an unprofessional job. I second the above comments. Go back to the shop and tell them they need to do it right. Trust me, they know what they did was stupid.

Well i'm gonna bring the car back to the muffler shop that welded everything together. One shop installed the headers and everything. Another shop welded the mufflex y-pipe together. Hopefully they can cut the weld off the bolts or fix it some how that way i can get some gaskets inbetween.

But will leaking at the collectors cause the car to run bad? Or will it just sound bad? Because it is after the o2's. Even though it is really close to them.

That shop sucks. I would definately go back up there and have a word with them. It doesn't take a mecanic to see that they did some FUBAR **** to your car.
