Are NGK Tr-5's same as Tr-55's ?

Like the title says are the tr-5's and tr-55's the same plug but they each come gapped different?

I know everyone says the Tr-55's are good but i bought tr-5's thinking I can just regap them to 0.050. Just want to make sure they are the same plug and will work with my car.

They will fit and you could probably get by with them just fine but thet are a heat range colder than the 55's

I asked for Tr-55's at advanced but I guess they didn't have any in so the guy said these were cross refrenced or something so i figured they were the same.

6's are colder, so I would think the 5 was a hotter plug

I would double check, cause I ran 6's on spray.

TR5 is hotter. You should get TR55s if you have mods. TR6s for N20 or high compression.

The 4th Gen FAQ indicates that the TR5 and the TR55 are both "stock" heat range plugs for the LT1. The TR5 comes pregapped to 0.035", the TR55 to 0.050". The TR6 would be a step colder than stock.

I use TR-5s on mine (.035" gap)...no issues. They are the stock heat range. Not sure why installer chose them over the TR-55s, I just had them throw in some new plugs when they installed the headers and that's what they said they put in "mostly stock" enignes. You shouldn't need to gap them to .050" to make them work.

As Fred said, the only difference is the gapping. The TR5 and TR55 are
identical except for gap. Since I went with a .043 gap, I used the TR5
and opened it up rather than gapping a TR55 down. Six of one and a half
dozen of the other.

Re: Are NGK Tr-5's same as Tr-55's ?

The TR5s work just regap them I have done this several times because it seems the TR5s are MUCH more commonly stocked than the TR55. Most vehicles with hot enough stock ignitions to support a .050 gap spec platinum(as our cars do) so coper plugs gapped that wide are going to be slow movers for the parts store.
