Post Cleaning Aluminum rims?

My bro just got a set of aluminum reims for free. Here's the problem the rims are pitted along the the outter and inner lip. I tried using poilishing compound and it didn't take any of it off. Is there anything that I can use on them that would take the pitting off? Or if not whats the next best thing I can do? Thanks

If the wheels ARE NOT clear coated, they would probably benefit from using a metal polish like Mothers mag and wheel polish, Wenol metal polish, or what I use on my billet wheels, Magic Mix metal polish.
