Next mod?
Hey guys, i've got a 97 z28 automatic with 108k on it. The mods already done are edelbrock throttle body and headers, cold air intake, deleted cats, 3.73 gears, and tranny work (im assuming something minor like a shift kit, the guy i bought it from was selling it for his son and "transmission work" was the extent of his knowledge. I also do not know if it was tuned after these mods. Im just wondering what would be the next mod yall would have done next? Im in college and thats where most of my time and money goes so keep that in mind while you make suggestions. Thanks. -Kyle

To do a cam you are looking at cam, rockers, springs, minimum $600 if you scour ebay. I would not just put 1.6 rr on the car as you do not know for sure that the stock lt1 cam is still in there; measure the lift with a dial indicator and determine what cam is in there first. Using a higher lift cam with the LT1 1.5 rockers/springs can be done but adding 1.6 rockers will coil bind the LT1 valve springs.
No mention of exhaust, a cat back with a larger diameter intermediate pipe makes some gains over stock ($300-400 new, less used on ebay). And not speed related but the LS1 front brake swap really improves braking with a bigger rotor and dual piston caliper plus it is an aluminum caliper so it brings down unsprung weight ($200-250 for a good used set of spindles, rotors, calipers on ebay).
Spend some time reading the engine and specific mod sections as there is a lot of good info on this web forum. Some of these may have been done but - throtlle bypass of the steam pipe is free and gets 5+ hp; better coil and getting the ICM off the head to reduce hear soak are cheap ($50) and also help a bit; 160d thermo and fan tune keeps the engine running a bit cooler and makes a bit more power.
