A newbie's nightmare changing the coil!
So, my condominium complex does not allow us to work on our cars here or we face a fine. Since I've been having a low rpm miss a little I decide to change the coil, thinking it will be easy. I drive the car to an abandoned lot about a mile from here and find a nice shady spot under an old oak tree. Already did my research so I pop the hood and prop it up. The coil is buried under a bunch of wire connections so I unplug them all, then put my ratchet on the bolt holding the bracket in place. Man this bolt is tough! I have to move to the other side of the car so I can pull the outboard one loose. I use all my strength, and heave ho! CRACK, splinter sound! Looking closely at what just happened, I've wrecked the wire connection on the top of the ignition control module; the plastic is broken, some metal wire is showing, and some kind of suspension lube or something is oozing out of it...ahem. I call AAA, and unknowingly give them the wrong street address, directing them to a fictional street, but at least with the right directions. The driver finds me, and we go back to my place. I quickly look up my part on gmparts direct, and the stupid little ICM costs $72 incl. s&h!
Let this be a warning to all newbies (and even oldies), make sure what your ratchet is going to bang into when you BREAK something loose! It's a simple matter to be careful, and may save one a lot of $okane$.
