Newbie here...

i came across this site a few days ago and decided to register in hopes of getting some advice on modifying my 93 LT1 Z28. i have purchased a 3" flowmaster cat-back exhaust and was wondering if it's possible to not run a cat convertor on these cars? i'm not worried about emissions as this car has not been plated since '04. it's just going to be a take it to the track and play around car. i don't have a big budget or anything for this car so i didn't feel that headers and off-road "Y" pipe were worth the $500+ expense to gain 20-25hp. i assume the convertor is the biggest restriction in the exhaust system. am i on the right track? will it cause any problems with the computer if i don't run the cat? everything is bone stock right now. any advice is apreciated.

They weren't wrong, it's just that the '93 are a little different than the rest.
In answer to your original question, you can run without a cat. It probably won't help much with the cast iron manifolds. The stock cat flows pretty good as long as its in good shape.

Re: Newbie here...

it has 100K miles on it so i doubt that it is in the best of shape. so far from what i have read on here it's going to be pretty expensive to get this thing to run much better than it already has. seems like the convertor and gears are going to be the biggest difference makers, as is the case with most combos. i'm kind of old school and i'm not liking the $$ factor dealing with the EFI and computers. makes me want to yank that off, e-bay it, and buy an intake and carb. i'm going to take it slow though and try to learn. i did check out that other site you mentioned. thanks.
