New walbro 255 fuel pump shutting off?!?

I just recently put in a new walbro 255 fuel pump in my car about 2 months ago and it recently has made noise. Also for the second time it has shut off. Today it shut off and at the end of the day I tried it again and it started up fine. Do you think it could be overheating? I decided to take it out of the bucket for now, to see if surrounding it by gas would keep it cool. When I put the fuel pump in the bucket I am not sure I even did it right, so I don't think it was working properly in the bucket. What do ya'll think? Is it overheating, and could letting it sit in the gas help keep it cool?

The return fuel line dumps fuel into the bucket to keep the fuel pump "fed" in case of high speed turns (fuel sloshing). The bucket is your friend

Re: New walbro 255 fuel pump shutting off?!?

My buddie and i recently did my pump, and i think he put the fuel lines in the wrong spot........there's the one hose that stays inside of the tank (does what, i don't know), and then there's the "return" hose.

Now, does the return hose hook up to where the little fuel strainer is (on the side of the bucket i think), OR to the top of the bucket going into the bucket???

My buddy told me that the return line goes to where the "little" strainer is..... you're saying it goes to the bucket to keep the "pump fed."

I'm confused now!

It should look like this just with the pump in the bucket...

If the pump is intermittently shutting off on you, have you checked the wiring? To the pump and to the relay....Maybe one came loose...?
