I don't think that synthetic aids in the ring seating process, but I can't see how it could hurt as much as some people claim. I don't claim to know all about engines, maybe if someone could explain why synthetic supposedly is bad for seating piston rings that would help.

Dyno based oils do a great job of lubricating. Their enemy is heat. Synthetics do a great job of lubing in extreme heat conditions when compared to dyno oils. They also can do this great job of lubing for longer periods.

Now, although dyno oils do a great job of lubing, synthetics have shown to do a BETTER job at it. Ring seating requires a controlled seating/lapping/mating process with the wall. Synthetics can hinder this process of controlled seating by doing too good a job of lubing/preventing wear. 'Course, this is my POV.
